(2003) My team above Namche Bazaar doing acclimatization walk

Solokhumbu, home of the legendary Sherpas.  And famous for one major reason – Mt Everest.

The ‘Khumbu’ is one of the more popular trekking destination in Nepal, and more popular to climbers especially those attempting Sagarmatha – Nepali name for Everest.  Monastery in far flung village of Tengoche or Pangboche, radiant appeal of thousand year old trading village of Namche Bazaar, exciting airplane landing or take-off in Lukla, best view of Mt Everest near Gorak Shep, among other hundred things – are enough reasons why one should put this place in his or her travel bucket list.

Trekking in Solokhumbu mostly involved stays in ‘tea-houses’ –  tiny hostels in tiny village in remote Himalayan landscape.  There, tourist can enjoy hot brews, Nepali food like the ubiquitous Dal Bhat and mix and match of other cuisine.   Yak meat can also be ‘sampled’, not very different from our home-grown cows.  A chance to visit Everest base camp during the spring to observe or mingle with climbers, Sherpa guides or base camp staff will definitely add a good spice to one’s trip.

Climbing offers many peaks ranging from 6000m (called ‘trekking peaks’), to more advanced level of 7000m.
This 2015, we’ll offer the chance to experience this.

With the recent earthquake disaster in Nepal, we'd like to include a day of school rebuilding as part of the itinerary.  This will make the trip even more fulfilling as we try to lend a hand in rebuilding communities. The school location is in Monju, just near the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park and very close to the accommodation place in Chumoa.  Details will be finalized by September.  With this, we'd like also to solicit voluntary contribution for the effort.  A suggested 50USD voluntary contribution (on top of the fees) is requested.  It would be nice if you can reach out to your friends for donations so they can be part of this worthwhile endeavor. I'm personally pledging 1,000USD for this effort to start the ball rolling, so to speak. :)
